FAQ: About MSN Extra

What exactly is MSN Extra?
MSN Extra is an experimental showcase that allows users who welcome a novel experience to interact with a wide range of content from all parts of MSN and its partners. People who have downloaded Silverlight, a new Microsoft plug-in. will enjoy a fancier navigational experience. Silverlight allows for a richer media experience through graphics, interactives and video.

What topics can I find here?
Think of MSN Extra as an extension of the homepage that is organized more loosely. On the MSN homepage, specific zones emphasize categorization, directing users to developments in news, sports, money, video and entertainment. MSN Extra offers an additional and flexible way to explore a broad range of content grouped by theme. Users have long asked for more articles and features on average folks, positive news, deeper analysis (especially from a more conservative perspective), animals and news you can use. At launch, we're delving into those topics right off the bat. For instance, our People section may focus on teachers (perhaps a first-aid instructor, a Little League coach or a prof extolling the need to better understand physics or postmodernism) or conquerors (people who have scaled Everest, overcome a phobia or defeated the scales by losing weight). Our Perspectives section will tackle topics stirring debate across the intellectual and political spectrums. In the Animals area, on one visit you could find a collection of stories, video and features about sea life; on another, you might read about exotic species.

What's with the photos at the top?
Each photo is an entry point to the content that materializes below once you click. Each photo signifies a category. Click on a photo to navigate into each of the pages. To the left usually you'll find harder news, going from the hottest content on MSN (typically determined by popular clicks) to leisure news on the right. Also, if you opt to download Silverlight, you’ll get a bolder experience. Learn more about Silverlight by clicking here.

How do I find MSN Extra?
You can access the section by clicking on the link among the collection of navigational links atop the MSN homepage. It's also listed on the alphabetical and category listings on the MSN directory. Each photo atop an MSN Extra page links to a specific topical page, and each can be bookmarked.

How often is Extra updated?
Each of the topical pages will be updated at least once a week. It's expected that the section will expand and evolve as Extra develops its audience and as we incorporate your feedback. Please use the form at right.

Is that it?
Hardly. We have bold plans to further refine MSN Extra — after all, it is a major forum for experimentation. Regardless of its current or future look, we hope it will remain an area deserving your frequent visits.

Thank you for your feedback.
