Changes ahead, but the dialog continues

By Jody Brannon, Inside MSN Editor

Many new projects are in the summer wind, and they are bringing changes to Inside MSN.

This column has been a place to explore issues and developments around the network, from the first ("Our nose for news") to the most recent ("Everest Team Inspi(RED) reaches the top"). Soon Inside MSN will take on a different look — or looks.

Forthcoming changes to the MSN homepage will introduce an area dedicated to helping users get more out of all the features, content and functionalities from all the various channels and properties, from Boomers and Autos, from Newsweek and The Root, to MSN Spaces and MSN Video Guide. You'll often be able to access Inside MSN in that area, just as today you can access Inside MSN in the "MSN Services" box near the bottom right of the homepage.

You can reach Inside MSN from the "MSN Services" box on the bottom right of the home page; it can also be accessed, with Letters to the Editor, from the alphabetical MSN Directory, listed near the top left of the home page.

The Week on Point

In response to soldiers who rock

Viewers comment on 'Military Idol' column

  • I think I could beat all of the guys on I-Roq XBox, but it would have to be I-Roq WII. Then I could beat them. Tucker, North Carolina (P.S.: I am only 8 years old)

  • It doesn't surprise me that the winners were from God's country – North Dakota. Way to go, guys. But I want to extend a great deal of gratitude and thanks to all the men and women who serve the greatest country on the planet. You are the reasons why the USA is so great. Let's now complete the mission that you all need to do. You are all my heroes. All of you who serve in the military, whether you are in combat or not, are integral to our effort worldwide. Do your tour and come home safe.Willy, Hudson, Wis., via Fargo, N.D.

  • The I-Roq contest is cute, however, it does nothing to solve the real problems our troops face as they return to employers who slam the door in their faces. This is just more touchy-feely photo-op nonsense by a country that betrays those most loyal to it, then denies it as they starve in the streets. Hey, maybe you can do an article showing homeless vets rocking out, too! Robert, Hanford, Calif.

Your Perspectives

  • Message boards
When I read a story and go down to read what people are saying in their comments, I am appalled at some of the language and abuse that people say. I only am commenting on this because children can also figure out how to read them also. I get offended at some of them myself. I do know that it is a pattern with certain people who post. I just think that it should be paid more attention to and some of these people need to be told to clean up their act. Just my opinion. Thank you. – Kathy, USA
  • Thanks for listening!
Thank you for finally putting a pause/play button on the marquee section of the MSN homepage! – Geri, Covina, Calif.

  • Fuel costs
With all the fuss about record-breaking profits and high cost of fuel, how come you haven't brought up the fact that the fuel companies have lowered the BTUs in the fuel that we consume, resulting in poor gas mileage? I used to get 20 MPG; now if I'm lucky I get 16!
    Danny, Kennebunk, Maine

  • Stock updates?
Why have you deleted the stock indexes on the MSN homepage? – Gene, Punta Gorda, Fla.
Editor's note: It's still there, but in homepage tests a fraction of MSN users get a version that moves the stock box to the right.
