Search: 'Where's Waldo?'

Pop culture icon Waldo, of "Where's Waldo?" fame, is celebrating his 25th anniversary. People have been trying to find him since the first "Where's Waldo" book was published in 1987. Since then, more than 58 million books in more than 38 languages have been sold worldwide.

Celebrations have been taking place in several areas throughout the year and will be highlighted by a "stripes in the sky" event in New York City (details) tonight, when the skyline will be lit with red and white, a la Waldo's famous shirt. A similar event was held in London Thursday.

Waldo, the fictional character known for traveling the globe (and at least once, outer space) in his iconic red-and-white outfit (see it) in illustrated books (shop for them), has a knack for blending into any crowd, no matter where he is, making it difficult to find him in the complex illustrations – hence the title of the series. Fans love the mental challenge of locating him, whether he's in Egyptian pyramids, forests or Hollywood.

To honor his monumental anniversary, we've rounded up a short list of some of his popular sightings (and a possible celebrity Waldo wannabe), plus some trivia about the books.
