Search: Florida Keys residents battle plan to release millions of mutant mosquitoes

A company's plan to release millions of genetically altered mosquitoes in the Florida Keys as a way to combat diseases (like what?) is being fought tooth-and-nail by many Keys residents who worry, among other things, that the mosquitoes will damage the local ecosystem (have such mosquitoes been released elsewhere?). Despite the concerns, Oxitec, the company behind the plan, says the technique is safe and effective (how many residents have signed a petition against the plan?).
